At MedNet, we believe that containing health care costs is critical at every level. Our
approach is designed so that all parties share in the effort. As participants in our
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) - working within a traditional fee-for-service
environment - MedNet health care professionals agree to contractual reimbursement levels
as payment in full. Plan members in turn have an economic incentive to use PPO physicians.
Claims and practices are regularly reviewed for quality and cost-effectiveness. The result
is lower costs across the board.
As a Maine physician owned and operated organization, MedNet places the highest premium
on the quality of our providers. We recruit and credential only those physicians who meet
our standards of quality and efficiency. MedNet contracts exclusively with health plans
that offer progressive Utilization Review programs, which encourage a consistently high
level of performance and accountability. Participating providers have the assurance of
knowing that their practices are subject to an informed and balanced method of peer review.
In the current landscape of health care, patients often feel that their needs are secondary
to financial considerations. At MedNet, we believe in patient choice and the role of the

through our arrangements with multiple insurers and health plan administrators. Several of
MedNet's clients are national insurance carriers that can offer an even wider range of plans
serviced and supported locally by Mednet. Our system empowers employers and members to choose
the exact level of coverage they need without the constraints of the typical HMO plan.
MedNet and our contracted insurers employ state-of-the-art computer systems to monitor
claims and practice patterns and measure them against national standards. Physician-driven
Utilization Review programs help eliminate costly and potentially unnecessary procedures by
suggesting a range of treatment options to our providers. Ongoing care is monitored to
ensure optimization of resources. At every point throughout these vital review processes,
decisions regarding care remain with the patient and the physician.
MedNet has over three thousand health care professionals whose practices encompass a
thorough range of primary and specialty care throughout the state of Maine. We are also
contracted with a growing number of hospitals and diagnostic facilities, locally and
